PROJECT CARS POWERS TO 2 MILLION UNITS SOLD
Slightly Mad Studios is today honoured to announce that sales of its genre-defining Project CARS racing simulation has surged past the two million mark.
Published by BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment, and created by Slightly Mad Studios using a unique community-based development system dubbed ‘World of Mass Development’, Project CARS has garnered both critical and commercial success since its debut in May 2015.
Project CARS, created by gamers and tested by real-world racing drivers, features world-class graphics and handling, a ground-breaking, dynamic time of day and weather system, deep tuning capability, and pit stop functionality. Project CARS was a launch title for the Oculus Rift, and has become the defining racing simulation on PlayStation 4, XBOX One, and PC, as well as the outright frontrunner in the burgeoning arena of Virtual Reality both on the Oculus and HTC Vive.
Ian Bell, CEO at Slightly Mad Studios, said: “The multi-million sales of Project CARS validates not only our revolutionary racing simulation, but also our unique World of Mass Development platform. From the onset, we believed that our groundbreaking way of funding games, alongside our commitment to working with our customers and listening to what they wanted from a racing simulation, would push us in the right direction.”
Stephen Viljoen, Project CARS Game Director, said: “We’re really proud of what we have created with Project CARS. Two million sales shows that there will always be a place for games made with passion and craftsmanship. This gives all of us working hard every day on the Project CARS franchise an adrenaline boost as we strive to keep creating the games and features our fans want.”
Project CARS is the market leader in racing Esport: it is the featured racing simulator at the Intel Extreme Masters events in Shanghai and Oakland, as well as being the racing simulation of choice for Red Bull 5G, and ESL competitions throughout the year. The current purse of €20,000 up for grabs in the showcase Logitech G Championship Series, and NVIDIA Challenger Series, is just a hint of things to come from this audacious global studio.
