ART DIRECTOR

OVERVIEW

To create and communicate the visual style and direction of the product through the use of visual, written and verbal communication with the art team, ensuring product is delivered to a high quality, on budget and schedule.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

MANAGEMENT

  • Lead the art direction of the project
  • Support the Art Leads in the implementation of the design
  • Provide leadership and motivation to the art team
  • Ensure good communication & coordination between the art and other parts of the team (programming, level design, design, production)
  • Recommend training requirements for the art team
  • Assist with recruitment and selection of staff for art team

PROCEDURES & STANDARDS

  • Establish and communicate the quality bar
  • Establish the art vision and style across the project
  • Ensure good visual, verbal and written communication of style
  • Review game builds
  • Maintain art quality across the project
  • Structure the games visual narrative
  • Direct the games mood/ambience
  • Direct lighting
  • Responsible for the production of concept, storyboarding and pre-visualization materials
  • Conduct selected asset reviews
  • Identify project risks and issues, and communicate them to the Game Direction Team and Art Leads with recommendation for mitigation and contingency

OTHER DUTIES

  • Make a positive contribution to the team at all times
  • Stay up-to-date with latest art techniques
  • Other duties within the scope of the job title and at the Managers discretion

Would have in-depth knowledge of…

  • At least two of the following software packages… 3DS Max, Maya, zBrush, Photoshop, Premiere, Houdini
  • At least one of the following game engines… Frostbite, Crytek, Unreal, Unity

INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE

Candidates are required to have worked in the gaming industry for more than 5 years, with at least two successful shipped console titles on the current generation of hardware
