Overview:

  • Vision holder for game design
  • Responsible for all creative elements including art, design, VFX, animation, characters, cinematics, ensuring the highest quality bars are hit
  • Help drive feature and content development from inception through to completion
  • Maintain focus and communication between team and stakeholder groups

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

DESIGN VISION

  • Defines and owns the vision and the pillars for the franchise and game design
  • Leads the team to ensure alignment of the game experience to the pillars without compromising the game’s values
  • Working very closely with the Chief Creative Officer and Game Direction Team, shares delivery responsibility for all aspects
  • Collaboration with other creatives and leadership on the project
  • Full understanding of the competitive landscape and up to date with industry trends, especially in the racing, action, and free-to-play landscapes

LEADERSHIP

  • Leadership focus, rather than management focus, of the wider team
  • Line manages the Game Design leads
  • Responsible for direction and coaching within the games Design team

STAKEHOLDER RELATIONSHIPS

  • Board-level stakeholder accountability and direction therefrom
  • Ever-ready to provide detailed updates with both creative vision and rock-solid commercial awareness
  • Ensures the management team are aware of the progress of game features and content
  • Expansive and deep understanding of the project status and progress

MOTIVATING THE TEAM

  • Has a natural ability to energise and motivate the team to hit goals
  • Evangelises the project to all departments
  • Able to induce positivity and commitment under pressure

COORDINATING SHOWCASES

  • Works with the Game Direction Team to bring together content from all disciplines when demos, vertical slices or prototypes need creating
  • Is able to stay focussed on the deliverable for a given showcase
  • Drives team show & tell sessions

PUSHES THE TEAM TOWARDS THE QUALITY BAR

  • Has a clear understanding of the quality bar and drives the team to hit it
  • Should make signoff a straightforward process by bringing all the component pieces together and ensuring quality goals have been met

BRINGS TEAMS TOGETHER

  • Engenders positive relationships between all departments
  • Strives for cross-discipline coordination on all features and content

FOSTERS COMMUNICATION

  • Ensures that information is shared as appropriate to the wider team
  • Works with the Game Direction Team to ensure the team understand how the game is coming together

OTHER DUTIES

  • Capable and practised at representing AAA games to press and external parties

Would have in-depth knowledge of…

  • At least two of the following software packages… 3DS Max, Maya, zBrush, Photoshop, Premiere, Houdini
  • At least one of the following game engines… Frostbite, Crytek, Unreal, Unity

INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE

Candidates are required to have worked in the gaming industry for more than 7 years, with at least two successful shipped console titles on the current generation of hardware
